TPC Conducts LGU CRS Fitters Training

The Policy Center held a child safety seat (CRS) Fitters training from December 1 to 3, 2021, for local enforcement officers from Muntinlupa and San Pedro, Laguna. Fourteen men and women stepped up to be the first Type 1 Fitters trained by Kidsafe Western Australia in the Philippines at the LGU level. This training is a capacity-building activity to prepare LGUs for the eventual implementation of RA 11229 (Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act). CRS as a safety device has been proven to protect children from road crash injuries. The demand for it is growing due, and so is the need for more licensed Fitters.

Melita Jeferries, from Kidsafe, led the training over Zoom for three days, thoroughly discussing CRS fitting principles and guidelines, including a demonstration of proper CRS fitting. On the final day, a representative from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) visited the Muntinlupa and San Pedro sites for in-person training and practical application of the lessons. Rhea Munsayac and Jofti Villena hosted the event.

Jefferies will once again meet the trainees for a final one-on-one interview on December 13, 2021, before they become official CRS Fitters.

This event was made possible with the LGU of Muntinlupa and San Pedro, Laguna, Kidsafe Western Australia, the LTO, Global Road Safety Partnership, and Global Health Advocacy Incubator.
