Technical Assistance in the Development of the National Health Promotion Action Framework and Playbook/Blue Spaces on Drowning Prevention
June – July 2022
The Center for Policy Studies and Advocacy on Sustainable Development or The Policy Center, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines and the Department of Health (DOH) worked together in a drowning prevention and control project with the former providing technical assistance in the development of the national health promotion action framework and playbook/blue spaces on drowning prevention.
This playbook is to be a guidebook for Local Government Units (LGUs) to implement drowning prevention and control programs in their localities.
The said organizations went to DOH Region 11 in the selected municipalities of Kapalong and Braulio E. Dujali of Davao Del Norte and did a rapid baseline assessment of previous drowning interventions in the area. This was able to help inform both the framework and playbook-guidebook development.
Global Road Safety Partnership: Mobilizing Stakeholders in Aid of the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act (R.A. 11229) Implementation
April 2021 – 2022
The project advances a multi-stakeholder approach to help in the effective implementation of R.A. 11229 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR); to widely disseminate to the public, information on the use of child car seats and other safety provisions for children; and to develop models of implementation at the sub-national level. It seeks to mobilize road safety stakeholders and create platforms of engagement to help build the demand and public support for the use of child car seats to ensure the safety of children in motor vehicles.
The objectives of the project are as follows: (1) Support the development of local action plans on road safety for children in the cities of Muntinlupa and San Pedro, Laguna; (2) Develop road safety module for children and other advocacy and monitoring tools for sustainability and to further assist in the implementation of road safety laws, including R.A. 11229. The action plan would include public information campaigns on the access to and proper use of child car seats and other measures to ensure the safety of children in motor vehicles (this may also include ordinances).
Currently, the project is advancing in its partnership agreement (MOU) in the Muntinlupa City and looking forward to the activities with the LGU, especially in the drafting of its road safety code and related action plan.
